Overview
The Honors Symposium introduces The ELC’s scholarship recipients to a wide range of business-related careers and industries to increase the number of future Black business leaders. Our goal is to help fill the pipeline of Black corporate executives from the classroom to the boardroom.
Newly selected ELC Scholars are expected to participate in the Honors Symposium. ELC Scholar Alumni are also invited to rejoin the leadership development series.
Here’s what Scholars can expect:
- A series of professional development seminars and keynote sessions featuring notable business and community leaders.
- Networking opportunities with other ELC Scholars as well as ELC members, senior-level executives, and other prominent global Black business leaders.
- Opportunities to attend impactful sessions led by Black leaders. These “for us, by us” conversations focus on navigating the corporate world as Black professionals.

Who attends the Honors Symposium?
ELC Scholarship recipients and Black Male Initiative participants are invited to take part in the Honors Symposium.
Is Scholar participation mandatory?
What is the dress code for the Honors Symposium?
How is travel arranged?
All travel (air, rail, or shuttle), lodging, group meals, and activities listed in the itinerary are covered by the ELC as part of the Scholar’s award package. ELC staff will work with each student to finalize and book travel.
Will lodging be arranged for those that attend college in the DMV area?
All Scholars are required to stay at the host hotel.
Are Scholars allowed to leave the hotel?
Scholars are advised against wandering, site-seeing or exploring the DC metro areas independently unless indicated in the Honors Symposium schedule.
Drugs & Alcohol Policy
The Honors Symposium is an alcohol and substance free professional development opportunity for all scholars regardless of age. The use of alcohol and/or drugs on or off the premises of an ELC sponsored event during the Honors Symposium is prohibited.
The ELC reserves the right to dismiss a Scholar from the Scholarship Program for violating ELC’s “Behavior and Alcohol/Drug Policy” at any time for misconduct.

How can my company participate in the 2024 Honors Symposium?
Scholarship sponsors have exclusive access to all scholar attendees with the unique opportunity to host a table during the exhibitor hall, speak on a panel and/or facilitate a breakout session.
Non-scholarship sponsors must email philanthropy@elcinfo.com to learn more about signing up as a career exhibitor.
What sessions are open to executives?
Where will the Honors Symposium be held?
We are now accepting hotel reservations for ELC’s Gala Week. Through this website you can book, modify or cancel your hotel reservations. The Gala Week room block group rate at the Marriott Marquis will remain available through September 9, 2024.
Is A Night at the Museum included in the registration?
Will there be transportation to the museum?
Yes, you can board the shuttle at the back of the Marriott Marquis on L Street NW.
Can I attend the Recognition Gala if I am attending Honors Symposium?
Individual tickets are available to the Gala Networking Lounge with streaming access to the Recognition Gala only and provide access to the Post-Gala Reception. Tickets are sold at $500 each. If you are interested in purchasing tickets, please email elcgala@elcinfo.com.
